When applying to many of our Arts, Design and Media courses, you will be asked to provide a digital portfolio. This is an opportunity to show us who you are, your artistic ability and your potential.
You will be asked to submit a digital portfolio to us within 28 days of receiving your invite to submit a portfolio review. We know that you may be applying to us relatively early in the academic year, while you are still building an updated portfolio, so please note that we are happy for you to submit the following: GCSE work (for undergraduate programmes); work from the previous year; work in progress, such as sketches of ideas; and photos of your work. Please make sure that your digital portfolio clearly evidences a level of subject knowledge for the course you are applying for, your passion in the subject area, creative potential and independent learning.

You will be asked to submit a digital portfolio if you apply to one of the following undergraduate Arts, Design and Media courses:
Architecture: BA (Hons) Architecture, BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design, BA (Hons) Landscape Architecture
Art and Design: BA (Hons) Art and Design, BA (Hons) Art and Design with Creative Technologies, BA (Hons) Fine Art, BA (Hons) Product Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Illustration
Fashion and Textiles: BA (Hons) Fashion Design, BA (Hons) Textile Design, BA (Hons) Fashion Communication
Photography, Film and Animation: BA (Hons) Digital Animation, BA (Hons) Photography
Jewellery: BA (Hons) Jewellery and Objects, BA (Hons) Jewellery and Silversmithing – Design for Industry (top-up), HND Jewellery and Silversmithing
You will be asked to submit a digital portfolio if you apply to one of the following postgraduate Arts, Design and Media courses. If you hold an undergraduate degree from Birmingham City University in a closely related discipline, you may be exempt from providing a portfolio.
Architecture: MArch Architecture, MA Interior Architecture and Design, MA Landscape Architecture
Art: MA Art and Design: Interdisciplinary Practices, MA Arts and Education Practices, MA Contemporary Arts China, MA Fine Art
Fashion: MA Fashion Design, MA Textile and Surface Design
Visual Communication: MA Visual Communication
Course tutors will be looking for your portfolio to evidence that you have a level of relevant subject knowledge, showcases your creative potential and independent learning and shows your passion/interest in the subject area and course that you have applied to.
You will be asked to upload your portfolio onto your mySRS portal. Please submit your work as one PDF or PowerPoint document (your portfolio will be rejected if you submit multiple files). Instructions for this will be sent by email but can also be found below: -

Please note: your username for the mySRS portal will be sent to you by email after you have made your application. If you have forgotten your password or do not yet have a password, you will need to click the ‘Forgotten your password?’ button to set or reset your password.
We ask that portfolios are submitted within 28 days after your conditional offer is sent to you, to provide time to share with the course team for feedback. If you are unable to submit your portfolio within 28 days, please submit as soon as you can after that. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
We review digital portfolios in date order of receipt, so it may take a few weeks for us to review and get back to you. Once we receive your digital portfolio, we review this and return individual digital feedback on the work you have provided. Please do not worry if you don't hear back immediately, we will be in touch as soon as we can.
Our Offer Holder Days take place between March-April, and provide an opportunity for you to speak to course staff about your work. You can bring examples of your work to get feedback on at an Offer Holder Day, and ask the course team any questions about your work on the day.
