Overview
A comprehensive and unique course, comprising training workshops in three levels, using LEGO® Serious Play.
Learn about smart city development in topic areas, system, process, data, people, and technology in an innovative way. The course is benefited from LEGO® Serious Play methodology to maximise interaction among participants for conceptualisation, problem structuring, and facilitation of knowledge generation and sharing with metaphors and 3D design.
Why smart city development is necessary?
Liveability of the current fast growing cities depends upon our ability to address urbanisation issues such as traffic congestion, pollution, health, infrastructure, and waste management. In order to address these issues and for sustainable living in these fast-growing cities, changing the method of performing urban activities and functions is necessary, to provide agile and efficient services to the citizens in real-time. This can only be achieved by establishing a real inter-communication and seamless connection amongst all city sectors that create and deliver services.
Why should you attend this course?
Developing smart cities has been proposed as a response to urbanisation challenges and changing citizens needs in the city sectors, such as human health, transport, infrastructures and energy to improve liveability standards. Hence, in order to stay on top of this forward movement and prepare for the future of living in cities, you need to get yourself trained on the fundamentals and necessities of this urban innovation.
The training helps you comprehend the meaning of real smart city, its characteristics, and the requirements to develop it. The course also provides an assistance to identify the tendencies of smart city necessities and provides you with insights on the challenges, which may be faced during smart city development, as wells as, an overview of how to address them. You will an opportunity to bring specific challenges of your project into the course to be discussed and resolved.

Tutor description
The course will be delivered by Dr Vahid Javidroozi, who has worked over seven years in smart city subject, especially city systems integration and city process change topics. Dr Javidroozi is currently a Senior Research Fellow working on various smart city related research projects such as a business process-centric framework for smart cities, so-called "FABS". As a member of Socio-technical research group, he also supervises various PhD, MSc and BSc dissertation projects related to smart cities. Moreover, he teaches smart city and process change related modules of computing and engineering courses. Furthermore, he is committee member of various Journals and conferences such as Smart Systems, Devices, and Technologies, IEEE smart cities.
As a career academic, all the work he has done across systems engineering, smart city development, enterprise systems, and information systems contexts, link in one way or another on improving the integration of people, process, and technology to support well-being and enhance quality of life at all levels; as well as to inspire the community to broaden their knowledge of these domains.
Many insights from his existing research projects and industrial experiences will inform his teaching and training programmes in smart city domains with the relevant and up-to-date knowledge.
