London based textile printers, Fashion Formula, announced their Scholarship in March, in which they were offering 5 students in any year of study across the UK, the opportunity to have their university design project sponsored.

To enter the competition, students had to follow a list of instructions including posting process shots on Instagram using the #fashionformulauk hashtag and sending a short artist statement containing information on their project or collection.

Hannah’s work focuses primarily on floral designs. Her recent dissertation looked at floral prints in men’s fashion, posing the question whether they are becoming more or less popular and accessible for men. Hannah’s research found the increase in gender fluidity and self-expression meant the floral designs in fashion are slowly becoming more available to men and thus decided to focus her Final Major Project on a floral menswear collection.

As instructed, Hannah posted photos on her Instagram of her detailed, neat and high quality drawings, providing insights into her luxurious commercial collection of colourful, beautiful prints with a botanical illustration feel to them.

“I won first prize which meant I won 15m (equivalent to approx. £250) worth of fabric of my choice which I can have custom printed with my Final Major Project designs – these will be included in my final degree show, my portfolio and any graduate shows, should I have the opportunity to attend."

Hannah’s tutor, Kate Farley, commented on this excellent achievement, “Hannah’s passion for print and in particular floral print designs has shaped her degree study and in particular her Final Major Project. She is proactive and highly committed to getting involved in all the industry has to offer so this is a great reward for her passion and dedication. The print prize awarded to Hannah will no doubt enable her to expand her portfolio ready for graduation and we look forward to seeing the outcomes.”

Fashion Formula recently posted a selection of Hannah’s photos on their Instagram page when they announced her as the competition winner.

Thrilled with her first place prize, Hannah commented, “I never expected to win, but spending a short amount of time completing the application process put me in with a chance! I always keep my design Instagram up to date and take photos that do my work justice. I’ve found that saying ‘yes’ to opportunities has been a huge benefit to me during my final year, more than ever!”
