Biomedical Engineers Employer Forum

IN INDUSTRY LAST UPDATED : 20 FEBRUARY 2019

Students on our Biomedical Engineering course had the opportunity to meet potential future employers this week at a special event at City South Campus organised by the course leader, Vivek Indramohan.

Representatives of organisations in the biomedical engineering sector were invited to meet students and hear them deliver presentations about their studies.

The event, for first and second year students, was to give them an opportunity to undertake a summer placement leading to their undergraduate / postgraduate research projects with one of the organisations attending the event. The employers gave a presentation about their companies and then each student gave a three minute pitch about their background, interests and their view of the future of engineering.

The event was attended by organisations including Quanta Dialysis Technology, Active Design, MDTi, New-Cross NHS Trust and Codamotion as well as a burns consultant and orthotics specialist from Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and enthusiasm to potential employers.

In advance of the event, students were supported by staff from the HELS Careers+ team who worked with students to develop their pitch, identifying their skills, thinking about what they had been working on in their course, what they enjoyed most, and what transferable skills they had developed.

The Careers+ team offer a range of support to help students with securing employment including one-to-one careers appointments, drop-in sessions, application support and CV checks.
