Retail Jeweller held a celebration event at the Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London, giving Katy and others like her the opportunity to meet and network with other designer-makers as well as rewarding them for making the list this year.

This is the first year that an event has been held to honour those who make the list, with Retail Jeweller hoping to build on next year with its 30 Under 30 mentoring programme, enabling alumni to mentor future cohorts.

Talking about her work, Katy says; “My products are very interactive, meaning you can wear the jewellery and visually appreciate it as an ornament/small sculpture when you're not wearing it.”

Katy has also been awarded a Gold Medal for her CAD presentation at Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council Awards for her piece entitled ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Talking about the jewellery Katy went on to say: “The Alice pocket watch piece consists of a silver ring and two pendants and hidden earrings which form a piece of the story for the Objet’ d’art”.

The idea for her pieces originate from a story or scene, such as from childhood, memories or past experiences. Her two new collections are ‘Home is Where the Bench is’, inspired by her time at the School of Jewellery and ‘One Stitch at a Time’ showcasing her journey as a designer maker. When discussing her design processes, Katy says: “I begin by making mood boards to set the scene in my head. Through sketches and personally sourced photography of relevant details and textures, I focus on form, shape and every very small details I can possible find.”

Since graduating, Katy has landed a job as the 3D print and CAD technician at Weston Beamor. Alongside her full-time position, she is also in part-time employment and running her own business.
