Increasing numbers of employers expect new graduates to have experience of the workplace, which is why we build placement opportunities into our courses.
With the chance to gain experience in everything from TV to public relations, you too could be industry ready by the time you graduate.
Placements are a chance to use and develop your skills in a professional setting, figure out which part of the media industry is right for you and grow your network. The work experience you’ll get whilst on placement can also prove to be a significant advantage when seeking full-time employment. Many students end up returning to the company they undertook their placements as permanent employees after they graduate.
Rachel Hickey – WPR Agency
PR graduate Rachel took part in several placements with PR agencies across the region whilst she was a student. She talks us through how she was supported in finding her placements, the benefits of taking part in them and how one of her placement experiences led to a job after graduation.
Patrick Lay – Birmingham TV
Media Production student Patrick worked as a Sports Reporter for local television station Birmingham TV for one of his placements. He explains how real-life experience in the media industry is key to building your confidence, what Job Book is and how it’s helped him find other work opportunities.
Kirsty Card – Birmingham Live
Journalism graduate Kirsty had a number of placements with newspapers across the country, including Birmingham Live. She discusses how she was helped to find these opportunities, the advantages of networking events and how you too can benefit from our industry links.
Corinne Stewart – BE83
Corinne Stewart, a third year Music Business student, is undertaking her placement with BE83. BE83 is a Birmingham based music management, recordings and publishing company responsible for recorded music across the groups labels Warner/ADA, Caroline/Universal and Sony/Orchard.
