Keeley's career to date has been characterised by an interest and awareness around issues related to equality, diversity and inclusivity. This is based on her research focus related to sexualities, sexual health and sex education, specifically relating to themes of inequalities, social exclusion and social justice. This is reflected in Keeley's teaching philosophy.

"For example, I teach students about different approaches to understanding within a feminist and critical psychological framework. A central aim of my teaching approach is therefore to examine political and ideological values and taken-for-granted knowledge that is often left unexamined by society, and more specifically, by Psychology. As such, my aim is to help students examine and critique values and assumptions that inadvertently hurt certain groups of society and lead to inequality and oppression."
