Aim
Our aim is to enable students to make and implement well-informed and realistic choices about higher education and about courses at Birmingham City University in particular. We offer information, advice and guidance on:

- The normal entry requirements and application procedures
- Provision for students with special needs
- The types, location, facilities and costs of accommodation
- The range of student support facilities
- The range of student social and sporting facilities
- Alternative sources of independent information about the University
Our users
We offer advice and guidance to anyone who is interested in finding out more about courses available at Birmingham City University. Our users include:
- School and college leavers considering subject, course or career options
- Parents
- Teachers
- Careers advisers
- Mature students without formal qualifications looking for guidance on entry routes into higher education
- People considering a career change or retraining
- Those already in full-time employment but interested in studying on a part-time basis to gain a professional qualification which will enable them to develop their career
- Those looking for a part-time course for personal interest or self-development
- Employment and training advisers who need to source information on behalf of a client
Our staff
Our staff actively seek to continue their own professional development in order to be able to present students with up date information on current trends and issues within higher education. Course advisers are supported to undertake relevant professional qualifications and training to meet professional standards in advice and guidance.
What users can expect from us
Our advisers will aim to:
- Effectively offer appropriate information, advice and guidance to applicants in making informed choices and not knowingly withhold relevant information
- Provide a balanced view of the university, the courses offered and the facilities
- Accurately represent their areas of competence, recognise the boundaries of their qualifications and competence, and make appropriate referrals where necessary
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism in their work
What we expect from our users
To help us to offer our users information that is appropriate to their individual circumstances, we ask them to provide accurate details of their previous educational attainments and any other information that may be relevant to their decision to apply for a course.
Confidentiality
Any sensitive or personal information which is disclosed to our advisers will remain confidential and will not be revealed to any other party without the permission of the individual involved.
