Anthony Howe is currently 2nd trombone with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where he has been a full-time member since 2001. He is also a member of the CBSO brass quintet and occasionally guests with other orchestras. He joined the Brass staff at the Conservatoire in 2003.

Between 1991 and 2001, his busy freelance career included work with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, CBSO, Hallé, Northern Sinfonia, Opera North and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

He has also worked in London’s West End in bands for musicals including The Lion King, Oliver, Carmen Jones, Oklahoma and Mack and Mabel. Additionally he has worked with various professional chamber music groups and was a winner of Royal Overseas League chamber music prize with Bone Idols trombone quartet.

Anthony studied on the joint course at the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester University, then at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He played principal trombone with the European Union Youth Orchestra for three years.

He has broadcast and recorded with the CBSO and other ensembles.
