Liz is a flautist and educator based in the Midlands. She studied at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where she won the Conservatoire Woodwind Prize, and received funding from the Royal Philharmonic Society Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Foundation. She was also a National Finalist in the Lyons European Young Musician Competition and winner of the Meg Rivers Prize at the Stratford International Flute Festival.
Alongside her work at Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Liz currently teaches at King’s High School, Warwick, Warwick Preparatory School, and Stratford Grammar School for Girls. She is passionate about encouraging her students to take ownership of their learning, giving them the skills to be able to express themselves musically, but above all enjoy their lessons and wider music making. Liz has previously taught for Services for Education Music Service, where her inclusion work included being closely involved with the One-Handed Musical Instrument Trust, and she also worked as a Primary Music Subject Lead in Sandwell for a number of years.
Alongside her teaching, Liz has a busy schedule as a freelance orchestral and chamber musician, and is a member of both Paradise Flutes and the Chimera Trio. She runs Malvern Flute Choir, and founded Tonic Arts: an organisation aimed at engaging young people in quality music making through instrument days and concert opportunities. In addition, the Tonic Arts Flute Ensemble gives aspiring flautists the opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside professional musicians. Liz is a trustee and previous Vice-Chair for the British Flute Society.
When not at work, Liz can be found exploring the woods and hills where she lives, having a cuppa and a good chat with family and friends, and eating tasty food!
