Jo completed her undergraduate studies at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, studying bassoon with Martin Gatt and Maria Mealey and contrabassoon with Margaret Cookhorn. She continued her studies with a Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal College of Music, London, studying bassoon with Sarah Burnett and contrabassoon with Martin Field.

Jo combines freelance orchestral playing and chamber music with a diverse variety of groups throughout the UK, including BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Raymond Gubbay Ltd, Orchestra of the Swan, Thursford Christmas Spectacular, 2004 – 10 (bassoon/contra), Iford Arts Opera, Alfie Boe ‘Bring Him Home’ Tour, Steve Hackett Tour, Queen Symphonic, and Madness. Jo also recorded the bassoon notes ‘played’ by actor Jason Watkins in the 2023 British short comedy-drama film ‘The One Note Man’.

Jo teaches bassoon at Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, The University of Birmingham, Kings High School, Warwick, Warwick School, King Edwards School, King Edwards High School for Girls, Bluecoat School, West House School and Oldswinford Hospital School.
