Jonathan Gunthorpe
Associate Head of Vocal and Operatic Studies
Jonathan Gunthorpe has had an eclectic singing career with extensive performance and recording experience in opera, concert, recital and choral repertoire, in works ranging from baroque to contemporary music.
He has performed as a soloist at venues across the world including the Royal Opera House, La Monnaie, La Scala, Théâtre du Châtelet, the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, and in Los Angeles, Guangzhou and Beijing.
In recognition of his contemporary performing work and teaching, he was asked to devise and lead the vocal writing seminar on the Jerwood opera writing course at Aldeburgh.
After studying English and Russian at Leeds University, he gained his MA in Music from the Birmingham Conservatoire in 1996 before further study at the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio. He was subsequently made an HonRBC and is proud to have returned as a member of staff.
He began teaching in 2011 and is dedicated to nurturing performers and discovering the best in every voice.
