Laura Ashton

Laura Ashton studied oboe at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and the Royal College of Music, completing her postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany.

During this time, she toured Europe with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and gained professional experience performing with the Freiburg Opera House. She subsequently held the position of Sub-principal Oboe with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden for several years before returning to the UK, where she established herself as a freelance performer and teacher.

Over the years Laura has performed with several orchestras including BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Opera North, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Sinfonia Viva, and Orchestra of the Swan. Laura has always enjoyed teaching the oboe and loves helping young players reach their potential and explore the rich oboe repertoire.

She currently teaches oboe at Trent College School, Lichfield Cathedral School, and the Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
