BMus Music Performance alumni Zahrah Hutton and Matthew Robinson have recorded an album as the Mela Guitar Quartet, scheduled for release on Friday 24 January.
Zahrah, and Michael Butten alumnus of the Royal Academy of Music, joined the Quartet’s founding members RBC alumnus Matthew Robinson and George Tarlton in 2023, and began recording this new album with Dutch label TRPTK in August 2024.
Titled Overtures and Dances, the album includes new arrangements of orchestral and solo piano works for four guitars and marks the ten-year anniversary of the Quartet forming.
Prior to the release on Friday 24 January, the Quartet will feature on BBC Radio 3 and Times Radio. The official launch of their album will take place at Hoxton Hall in London on Friday 24 January.
Zahrah has an arrangement credit on the album and designed the album cover artwork.
Zahrah commented: “I created a set of guitar chamber arrangements as my major project at RBC, which were partly inspired by Mela. It’s exciting to now be a part of the ensemble and I'm proud to have an arrangement on the album.”
