MMus student Vinícius Motta was presented with the Musicians’ Company Silver Medal at a ceremony at Goldsmiths’ Hall in London recently. Each year, the Musicians' Company presents a Silver Medal to an outstanding student who has been nominated by a Head of a conservatoire or music colleges.
Vinícius has a diverse portfolio, which includes incorporating his Brazilian heritage into his music through South American rhythms, Portuguese texts, and his lived experiences.
These works have earned recognition through performances by ensembles such as the Orchestra of the Swan, Contemporary Music for All, and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
The Musician’s Company aims to nurture and support emerging musicians by awarding around £200,000 per year through prizes, bursaries, scholarships and awards to talented music students.
The Silver Medal is the company’s oldest award and has been in existence since 1889. The medal was originally established as an annual award to an outstanding student at the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music or the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Over time, the award’s reach has expanded to cover other institutions, including RBC.
Vinícius attended the presentation at Goldsmith’s Hall on Wednesday 13 November.
He reflected: “I am truly honoured to have attended the Musicians' Company ceremony and to have received the Company’s Silver Medal. My sincere thanks go to RBC for its recognition and ongoing support over the past few years.”
Stephen Maddock added: “Many congratulations to Vinícius who is a most deserving recipient of this award. Viní is a remarkable composer and performer who has contributed immensely to the life of RBC over the last four and a half years.”
