Postgraduate students Oliver Barker, Eli Street and Charly Browne will join the National Opera Studio (NOS) Academy to receive intensive training and start their operatic careers.

The NOS Academy offers a five-month course designed to identify and support aspiring opera singers. As part of this opportunity, Academy singers will receive training from NOS staff and guest coaches.

The students were made aware of this opportunity through NOS social media posts, and RBC staff encouraged them to apply for the opportunity. The students received confirmation from The Academy earlier this month. Running from February until June, the course is free to support singers who show ‘considerable vocal promise but may have encountered [financial] barriers’.

By joining the Academy, students will have further access to coaching, masterclasses, recordings and professional development sessions to support their progression at RBC. Oliver, Eli and Charly will develop their understanding of preparing for an operatic career, and the Academy will continue to be a partner in their development alongside RBC.

Oliver commented: “This has felt like a big win, and wins can sometimes feel hard to come by in this field. It is a reminder that there really are still people out there creating opportunities, and for that I am incredibly grateful.”

Eli reflected: “Being a part of the Academy is such an extraordinary opportunity that I know I will benefit hugely from. It confirms that I am on the right track – and have the potential to have a career doing what I love!”

Charly added: “I am thrilled to be a part of the Academy; it is exactly the next step I have been looking for. I look forward to exploring the boundaries of what my performances are capable of.”
