Dancing at Lughnasa by Brian Friel
Directed by Daniel Johnston
Casting by Danièle Sanderson
It’s time for harvest in 1936’s County Donegal. In a house outside the village of Ballybeg, Dancing at Lughnasa spans two days in the lives of the house’s inhabitants: five adult Mundy sisters; their older brother, a missionary priest returned from Uganda; and the youngest sister’s seven-year-old son, Michael.
Told through a series of retellings from Michael, Brian Friel’s play explores the role of memory and the past and how nostalgia and regret can intertwine.
Winner of the 1991 Olivier Award for Best Play of the Year.
