Brahms Six Pieces for Piano

Ellie Bagshaw from Buxton, Derbyshire is in her fourth year of her Bachelor of Music degree at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, studying tenor horn with Helen Varley and Ian Porthouse.

Ellie learned to play in her local brass band, Burbage Band (Buxton) with the help and guidance of Steve Critchlow (the musical director of Burbage Band). She regularly returns to Burbage Band when she is home.

She is also extremely passionate about arts management and has managed the Conservatoire Brass Band for two years as well as being the Orchestra manager this year for her final project.

Bianca Vancea was born in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and began to learn piano at the age of six. She moved to the UK in September 2021 and has been studying at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire under John Thwaites. During her time at RBC, she has participated in numerous competitions, and has been involved in projects, festivals and masterclasses. Some highlights include being a finalist in the Beryl Chempin Beethoven Prize (2023), performing at the Ulverston International Music Festival (2023 & 2024), and featuring in RBC Lunchtime Recitals as a collaborative pianist.

Bianca is passionate about chamber music, and she has worked with string players whilst exploring duo repertoire. Since 2022, she has been a member of the Boulanger Piano Trio, who have enjoyed performing in venues across Birmingham, including the Alexandra Theatre and St Hilda’s Church. Bianca has been working with singers and was part of the DIY Opera Scenes project in June 2024. She has been collaborating with soprano Maria Willsher, and they have performed a wide range of repertoire, primarily focussing on English songs.

Bianca is a joint winner of the John Ireland Prize and has been awarded the Edward Brooks English Song Accompanist Prize and the Gordon Clinton Prize for English Song Pianist. Later this year, Maria and Bianca will be releasing an album featuring a selection of twentieth-century English songs centred around the theme of nature.
