The First 8 - a new musical in concert
By Alexandra Hope Watson
The First 8 is a new musical written and composed by Alexandra Hope Watson. It tells the stories of the first eight women who were employed by the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) during World War 2 in the United Kingdom from 1939 - 1945 and their leader Pauline Gower. They fought for equality not only in the plane but also successfully fought for equal pay leading ATA to be the first organisation in the UK to award equal pay to women.
