What is a Freshers Fair?

To put it simply, BCUSU’s Welcome Fair is THE event you need to attend when you get here. Put together by your Students’ Union, you’ll find hundreds of stands, all here to welcome you to BCU and give you an idea of everything that’s available from BCUSU, the University and the city of Birmingham while you’re here.

Meet BCUSU

As a BCU student, you’re automatically a member of BCUSU, and they’re here to give you a voice and enhance your time at University. They provide a range of services and activities to help you have a great time while you’re here, but also to make sure you leave with the confidence, skills and experience that could help you get your dream job. The SU is led by Executive Officers, who are elected by students each year and will be at the Fair to chat more about what they do.

Meet new people

The Welcome Fair is a great opportunity to meet new people or to go along to with your new flat or coursemates. There will be reps from around the University, a whole load of societies, as well as some key people you’ll want to know, all here to answer your questions and introduce you to uni life.

Suss out sports and societies

You’ll be able to learn about the extensive sports and society activities at the University. There’s everything from cheerleading, kickboxing and football to gaming, languages, faith groups and more. Team members will be on hand to give you a rundown of their society and activity, plus you can sign up to taster sessions, memberships and more.

Jobs and volunteering

You may not know yet if you want a part-time job or to volunteer while you’re here, but the Welcome Fair is a good place to start finding out more about the opportunities available.

You can also find out more about internships, placements and the Graduate+ scheme.

What about the freebies?

Yep, lots of freebies. We’re talking pizza, pens, stationery, as much merch as you can fill your pockets, bag or socks with.
