We have developed the following academic modules:
Introduction to Lower Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Introduction to Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
This new academic course (offering an award of 40 credits at level 7) explores evidenced based practice in clinical endoscopy. Focusing on two modalities in endoscopy - upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy - you will learn the theory behind the practice. All teaching is online so not travelling required, but there is still plenty of opportunity for interaction and discussion. In order to apply, you must be either already performing independent endoscopy or in a clinical endoscopist training role.
Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Nursing: A Holistic Approach to Patient Care and Safety
This module examines the comprehensive and holistic approach required to provide high quality patient care and ensure utmost safety during endoscopic procedures. It explores the intricate details of patient preparation, the crucial role of the nurse in assisting during the procedure, and the attentive care needed post-procedure. By emphasising the importance of a holistic approach, this module aims to equip nurses with the knowledge and skills necessary to prioritise patient well-being and safety at every stage of the endoscopy process in line with Endoscopy Workforce Competencies (Skills for Health 2007) and JETS Workforce competency framework.

Feedback from previous participants
"Many of the BCU lectures provided invaluable teaching that have given me a solid foundation to build upon. The sessions on upper GI pathology were extremely beneficial, in particular, the case studies where we discussed cases and made differential diagnoses."
"I found it advantageous that all of the delegates were on the HEE Clinical Endoscopist (CE) programme as the peer support gained has been invaluable. Despite my prior CE experience, I found it reassuring that we were all experiencing similar issues and anxieties and I did not feel judged by my peers. Having experienced clinical endoscopists who were willing to share their experiences and offer their advice and insight was hugely beneficial."
"I have always preferred face to face learning as opposed to online learning. So, when I found out that the course I was taking was not entirely face to face, I was quite worried. I doubted my own organisational skills and kept thinking whether I would be able to learn real endoscopic skills with majority of time in virtual learning and few face-to-face learning opportunities. I was also worried about staying motivated to complete the course successfully. However, as I progressed through the course, I began to appreciate the systematic design, repeatable knowledge notes, and regular teacher-student interactions that are integral components of the Clinical Endoscopist programme. I really enjoyed the course and learned a lot from it."
