Paul Saunders

Multi-Instrumental Consultant

After graduating from the Royal College of Music as a Clarinettist in 1991, Paul has since become one of the busiest woodwind players on the West End circuit.

A relatively new addition to the professorial staff, Paul represents a different sphere of the profession to the traditional orchestral or solo route. As a multi-instrumentalist, he is required to cover many different genres on more than one instrument, and as such advocates that ‘Woodwind Doubling’ is a speciality in its own right.

During his West End career he has been required to play all Saxophones, Clarinets and Flutes on productions including ‘Wicked’, (where he has been based for the last few years), plus ‘Billy Elliot’, ‘Guys and Dolls’, ‘Les Miserables’, ‘The Producers’, ‘Mary Poppins’, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Ghost’, ‘Miss Saigon’, ‘Top Hat’ and many more…

TV and studio work include LWT Parkinson, BBC Open University and BBC Can’t Sing Singers. UK Tours include ‘Sunset Boulevard’, ‘Kiss me Kate’, ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’, ‘Half a Sixpence’ and ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’.

Work outside of the musical theatre genre includes Scottish Opera, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Welsh National Opera, Chameleon Arts Orchestra, CHROMA and the occasional late night cabaret at Madame Jo Jo’s. Spartan Press and Trinity Exam Board have published several of his sheet music compositions including the book specially written for aspiring woodwind doublers, ‘So You Want to Play In Shows’.

Paul is an Endorsing Artist for Légère.
