Enhancing your Employability
The School of Digital Media Technology has a reputation as a centre of excellence in television and interactive media.
Our lecturers include highly experienced practitioners across the disciplines of digital media technology and we benefit from a close partnership with industry which led to the launch of Creative Networks, now the leading monthly networking forum for creative companies in the West Midlands.
Module Industrial Mentors
Our students are able to discuss the industrial context of particular modules thanks to an initiative that allows them to have forum-based discussions with experienced professionals - or Module Industrial Mentors (MIMs).
These mentors are able to share their expertise by discussing real-life scenarios and they also benefit from the fresh ideas and perspectives of our students.
Opportunities to interact with experienced professionals through guest lectures and masterclasses means that our students gain a deeper insight into the professional world.
Students are encouraged to undertake placements between their second and final years, as well as shorter-term work experience. This not only enhances technical skills, such as developing contacts, but also ‘softer skills’ such as confidence, personal time management and interpersonal skills.
Our graduates support the local economy by providing a large number of graduates into the Digital clusters at Fazeley Studios, the Custard Factory and the Jewellery Quarter. A number have also set up their own digital agencies in the region.
Student and graduates from our film-based courses have worked on productions that include Doc Martin, Merlin, Cuban Fury, Crufts.
