Welcome to the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media at Birmingham City University. Home to five cutting edge Institutes – Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts, Birmingham Institute of Media and English, Birmingham Institute of Fashion and Jewellery, Birmingham Institute of Architecture and Design, and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, we are a leading creative Faculty committed to the role of arts, design and media in reimagining and remaking our relationship to the world.
Whilst we are informed by how meaning has been historically created, we are also committed to creating new conversations and new means of expression. Acting, Architecture, Art, Design, English, Fashion, Film, Video Game Design, Graphics, Illustration, Jewellery, Media, Music, Photography and Textiles all have a home here and we are interested when our subjects combine and join others to create new languages and new ways of thinking.
Our Parkside building is conveniently located adjacent to STEAMhouse, Birmingham City University's initiative which places arts and creativity at the centre of traditional science subjects. Arts, Design and Media is a truly dynamic Faculty which I am honoured to lead.
We want our students to contribute to how culture is made and engaged with, and we seek opportunities for them to present their work within the city. Birmingham is a dynamic city, and the Faculty of Arts, Design and Media is at the heart of many of its developments.
You will see our staff and students research and practice in the city’s galleries, theatres, concert halls, festivals and even department stores. Arts, Design and Media is a diverse and welcoming Faculty and I know that you will be as inspired by what happens here as I am.
