Our School of Jewellery is the largest in Europe and is internationally renowned for our specialist courses led by
tutors with extensive industry experience. You’ll study where the industry practices – since 1890, the school has been based in the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, where an estimated 40% of British jewellery is made today.
The School of Jewellery is about people and how they create objects of wonder. It’s why we deliver a rich mix of world-leading learning through making and doing. Our unique approach to teaching comes from our deep understanding and respect for the profession. It means we are the only institution that covers jewellery, horology and gemmology in one place. Traditional skills are equally as important as cutting-edge technology, and creative thinking is just as important as designing and crafting.
Ours is a school of unrivalled experience, where students develop the skills, capability and opportunity to push artistic boundaries and shape the future of jewellery. In 2019 Birmingham City University was awarded a prestigious Queen’s Anniversary prize in recognition of the School of Jewellery’s proud history of innovation, stretching back over 130 years.

The Birmingham School of Jewellery was the proud home of BBC TWO’s All That Glitters seasons one and two. All That Glitters was a six-part series fronted by comedian Katherine Ryan and saw eight of the UK’s best jewellery makers battle it out to impress expert judges Shaun Leane and Dinny Hall.
