Photography - BA (Hons)

Give us a brief overview of your project

I have been focusing on the exploration of empowerment and creating fashion imagery relating to this, specifically through the use of mythology and goddesses. I'm using this link to show what the modern day interpretation of these goddesses would look like to me. I have developed the idea of empowerment and pushing boundaries with my photography to create a cohesive portfolio.

Why did you choose this concept?

I love the idea of working towards creating imagery that is inspiring. While fashion is always an influence to my every day life, I also wanted to make the models in the photograph the inspiring element too. I am inspired by mythology and how it is still a relevant nature today, as well as how history plays a part in modern day.

What processes have you been using?

I have been working with lighting across these projects, trialling and testing to see which lighting sets the mood best. As well as this, I have been striving to be more experimental with my work have explored strong styling and the use of poses too. All of these elements have played a large part into the success of my shoots and has taught me to push further to edit through adobe as well.

What do you hope to achieve with your project?

I hope to walk away with a strong portfolio that makes me stand out from the crowd when pitching my work. I have already developed confidence in myself and my work and wish to continue this. I hope to achieve a consistent photographic style and to become an expert in the field i am working in through testing and practice. So far, I have been working towards this goal and being critical on the strengths and weaknesses of the work I have made so far and hope to get this to help me achieve the highest standard of work i can.

How has your course helped you to prepare for working on your project?

The course has helped me develop my work massively through industry experience and opportunities to connect with other creatives to build a team of my own. Having guest speakers and portfolio reviews have really helped me refine my work and understand what is expected of me in the industry and knowing what works best for me as a photographer. I have had the chance to gain feedback as often as i needed it and have support on any technical skills to help me achieve the kind of work I have been inspired to create.
