Dr Lucian Tipi joined Birmingham City University (BCU) in December 2022 as Associate Dean Teaching, Education and Student Experience in the Faculty of Business, Law and Social Science (BLSS). Dr Tipi is leading on the Teaching and Student Experience strategy of the BLSS and is responsible for the delivery of high-quality education to our extraordinary students.

Prior to joining BCU Dr Tipi was Head of Teaching and Learning Enhancement in the College of Business, Technology and Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University since 2020, having previously led the Department of Finance, Accounting and Business systems at the same University.

Having qualified from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, with a degree of Automation and Computer Science and having completed a Masters of Science degree in the same area, Dr Tipi completed his doctorate through a PhD research programme in Project Management using a soft systems approach at Sheffield Hallam University.

Dr Tipi has successfully led on courses development and developed international partnerships in a wide range of areas with institutions such as VTC (SHAPE) in Hong Kong, TAR UC in Malaysia and Botswana Accountancy College (BAC).

Dr Tipi has worked in the UK and Internationally, in a variety of industries including the armed forces, steel industry, IT consultancy and academia. He has extensive experience of UK and International commercial work, teaching and research.

Dr Tipi’s research interests are in Education, Information Systems in Business and Project Management. He has published in these areas, mainly at international level, through case studies, books and book chapters, journal papers and conference contributions.

Dr Tipi is active in the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, particularly in the Online Affinity group, where he is the current Vice Chair of the group.

His favourite past time activities involve walking and visiting places of historical significance in the UK and abroad.
