Understanding your offer

When you log in to UCAS Hub on results day, you might find that the offer is not what you expected. This is often nothing to worry about! Here are some of the most common scenarios and what your next steps will be.

Two students look at their exam results

Scenario 1: I’ve been offered a different course to the one I applied for

If you missed the entry requirements for your chosen course, we may offer you a place on an alternative course which we feel is more appropriate. This could be a Foundation Year in the course for which you have applied for, a Foundation Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND). We may also offer you a place on a different course in a related subject.

If this happens, don’t panic! Use our course search to find out more about the course you have been offered in order to make an informed decision. You can always contact our Enquiries team if you’d like to talk to someone about your options.

If you are happy with the new course offer, you’ll need to accept this in UCAS before your place is confirmed.

Scenario 2: My offer is still a conditional offer

If you log onto UCAS on results day and your offer still hasn’t been confirmed, this is normally because we are waiting for extra information from you. This might be that you are still waiting for results such as GCSEs or need to send proof of your qualifications.

The most important thing to do is keep calm, read all of the information in your UCAS Hub carefully and check your emails for any further information. We are always here to help, so get in touch with us on 0121 331 6295 if you have any questions.

Scenario 3: I’ve been given a place at my insurance choice

If your firm choice isn’t able to confirm your place, you may be placed at your insurance choice. If your insurance place is confirmed at BCU and you want to explore your options to change course with us, we can help you with that request. You’ll need to complete the course change form on our website and our Admissions team will be in touch with you within five days.

Changing your course is dependent on you meeting the entry requirements for the course, as well as spaces being available. It’s important not to reject your original BCU offer on UCAS, as this could mean you lose access to any scholarships or accommodation you have applied for. We can help you to change course at BCU without you having to go into Clearing.

Scenario 4: I haven’t been given a place at my firm or insurance choice

If you aren’t accepted by your firm or insurance choice, you can still find a course through Clearing. Clearing offers you a chance to find a full-time undergraduate course to start this September.

It’s a good idea to browse the courses available in Clearing to know which courses you may want to apply for on results day if you don’t get the results you were hoping for.
