Digital Forensics - BSc (Hons)
Although Ben was nervous to apply for his course through Clearing, the support he gained from BCU allowed for a smooth yet efficient process. This ensured he could begin studying Digital Forensics and begin his journey into a future career supporting the police as a Forensics Investigator.
When I first began looking at university choices, I knew I wanted to do a course in digital forensics but couldn’t find a university that covered industry knowledge. When I researched I found that the BSc (Hons) Digital Forensics course at BCU, not only had a range of modules built to prepare you for the industry but it also had a highly qualified faculty delivering the course. When I attended an open day, I spoke to several course lecturers and found they were passionate about the subject and were enthusiastic about sharing what the course involved as well as their career journeys into the industry. I felt inspired and immediately made my decision to study here.
When I received my college results, I was disappointed to find they weren’t quite what I had been aiming for. This meant I didn’t have the qualifications to get onto the Digital Forensics course. This is when I received a call from Richard Hale, who was a lecturer on the course. He took me through the process of a Clearing application and I was offered a place on the course! I was nervous throughout the Clearing process but with the support of BCU, I was able to begin my journey into my dream career. Now, I can’t imagine myself studying anywhere else.
Digital Forensics is a constantly changing field. I’m always learning new things and completing projects that are completely different from anything I’ve ever done before – it’s challenging but very rewarding! I’ve also found that lecturers are passionate, which is refreshing as it makes it more interesting to learn about the field. They want you to succeed and this motivation has helped to achieve things I never thought possible.
Despite the disruptions and challenges over the last year, I’ve enjoyed the course thoroughly so far. The course focuses on gaining skills for the industry, allowing me to gain confidence in my ability and take on more opportunities as they begin to arise.
Once I graduate, I hope to begin a career as a Forensics Investigator supporting the police. I am looking forward to beginning my placement year which will allow me to gain the skills and knowledge I need to step into the industry.
For me, ‘I AM BCU’ is confidence. Having the confidence in my ability, in saying yes to more opportunities, and getting out of my comfort zone. I discovered so much more than I first imagined. I thought I had lost my chance, but Clearing allowed me to study a subject, for which I have a true passion.
