All courses within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment, from Quantity Surveying to Digital Media Computing, offer students the option to undertake a sandwich year. Industrial sandwich placement years are well-established across most industrial and business sectors in the UK. Some multinational companies employ large numbers of sandwich students year after year and many smaller companies employ one or two students each year.
Our students work in many different industries, from small music studios and tech start-ups to some of the largest construction, IT and engineering firms in the UK.
Students out on placement benefit from two progress reviews and ongoing support from the Employability Team and their placement tutor.
If you want to look at alternatives to a full sandwich year placement, we also offer shorter opportunities including ongoing work experience placements, summer internships or industry led projects.
"It was interesting analysing the data to find out about customer purchasing behaviour. Overall, doing an industry-led project was challenging but fulfilling and it was a good experience."
Mike Aresu - BSc Business Information Technology
