Join us for a weekend of folky cello fun and exploration in Birmingham with American cellist Natalie Haas. We’ll explore all the possibilities of this versatile instrument, delving into cello-friendly fiddle repertoire from Scotland, Scandinavia, America and beyond.
We will also take a look at the cello’s role as an accompaniment instrument, discovering how to find and hear chords using a practical approach to theory, as well as how to treat the cello like a rhythm instrument including shuffle patterns, chopping, horn parts, guitar & harp-like pizzicato textures, and more.
Over the course of two days, we will develop an arrangement for multiple cellos at multiple levels of a medley of dance tunes, with all learning done by ear.
