Roderick Williams OBE is one of the most sought-after baritones of his generation. He performs a wide repertoire from baroque to contemporary music, in the opera house, on the concert platform and is in demand as a recitalist worldwide.
He has sung opera world premieres by David Sawer, Sally Beamish, Michael van der Aa, Robert Saxton and Alexander Knaifel. Recent and future engagements include The Traveller / Death in Venice for Welsh National Opera, the title role in Eugene Onegin and Yeletsky / Pique Dame for Garsington, Papageno for Covent Garden, Sharpless / Madame Butterfly for ENO and van de Aa’s Upload with Cologne Opera, Bregenz Festival and the Dutch National Opera.
He was awarded an OBE in June 2017 and sang at the Coronation Service of King Charles III in May 2023 as well as composed a choral work for the event.
Andrew West and Roderick Williams have a longstanding partnership which has covered a wide range of repertoire, from Schumann cycles to world premieres by Alexander Goehr and Dominic Muldowney. They have given recitals throughout the UK as well as at festivals in Germany, Russia and Australia. Their CD recordings include Parry's English Lyrics, songs by Stanford, and a disc of Lieder, all for Somm Records.
Andrew West is Chairman and Artistic Director of Kirckman Concerts, which for over sixty years has auditioned exceptional young musicians and offered them debut recitals at major London venues. He studied under Christopher Elton and John Streets at the Royal Academy of Music, of which he is now a Fellow. He teaches at the RAM and the Music Faculty in Cambridge.
