 "GAELIC VISIONS"

Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra – Gaelic Visions

MacCunn The Land of the Mountain and the Flood
Arnold Four Scottish Dances
Stanford Irish Rhapsody No.1
Beach Gaelic Symphony

Conductor Michael Lloyd

Much music has been inspired by the Gaelic cultures of Scotland and Ireland. First, an overture as grand as the Scottish landscape it depicts, followed by a selection of energetic dances including a Strathspey, a reel, and a fling. Across “tha Giant’s Causeway/Clochán an Aifir” to Ireland to hear an Irish rhapsody, and ending with the first symphony written and published by a female American composer, drawing on old Gaelic melodies.
