Dr Hadeel Saadany is a lecturer in Data Science and Natural Language Processing (NLP). She conducts research in multidisciplinary fields focusing on the intersecting areas of NLP, Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in different domains. Her research projects are primarily focused on utilizing AI to solve real-life problems through collaborative research with UK and USA industrial partners.

Hadeel has previously worked at the University of Surrey as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow where she acted as a lead researcher in a research-industrial project between eBay and the Institute for People-Centered Artificial Intelligence (PAI). She employed recent Large Language Model AI technology to improve the efficacy of the infrastructure of the search engine for the eBay cooperation. She has also been the lead researcher of an Innovate UK research-industrial project where she applied NLP techniques for building a multi-modal user interface (UI) system that facilitates legal information acquisition for the UK Supreme Courts. The UI system is currently in the application process to be published as an innovative patent by the UK Intellectual Property Office. 

Dr Saadany has also engaged in several data science projects where she employed AI techniques in different fields such as business analytics in the automotive industry, cyber security risks in automatic machine translation and fake news detection. She has conducted diverse NLP research in automatic sentiment transfer, machine translation evaluation and applying NLP in digital humanities research.

Dr Saadany is currently working as part of the research team for the ACCORD Horizon Europe project (2022-2025) that focuses on automating the building permit and compliance processes using Building Information Modelling for the planning, design and construction of structures and buildings.
