Dr. Waqas ur Rahman is a Lecturer in Broadcast Engineering at Birmingham City University. Waqas has over a decade of experience in the field of Communications Engineering. He has the experience of working both in industry and academia. He teaches multiple Broadcast Engineering courses at undergraduate and graduate levels. He leads research in Multimedia Streaming with an emphasis on designing novel strategies to optimise quality of experience.
Prior to joining BCU in 2021, he worked as a Post-doctoral Scholar at Kyung Hee University, South Korea. During post-doc, his research work focused on context-aware collaborative video streaming solutions on the edge of cellular networks. He also worked as an adjunct lecturer at Kwangwoon University and Kyung Hee University.
Waqas received his PhD in Electronics and Communications Engineering in 2018 from Kwangwoon University, South Korea. During PhD, he designed quality adaptation strategies for efficient video streaming over single and multi-client environments. He has a MSc Computer Engineering (2012) and BSc (Hons) Electrical (Telecommunications) Engineering (2009).
From 2011 to 2014, Waqas worked as an Assistant Manager in the department of Multimedia and Broadband at Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL), the largest telecommunications service provider in Pakistan. At PTCL, he led a team of engineers responsible for monitoring, configuring, and troubleshooting Broadband and IPTV access network multiplexers and switches.
Waqas' research interests include multimedia quality adaptation, mobile edge computing, and immersive multimedia communications. He has published a number of peer-reviewed journals and presented papers at international conferences.
