Dr Faisal Saeed
Faisal Saeed is an Associate Professor at the College of Computing and Digital Technology, Birmingham City University. He leads the MSc Artificial Intelligence course and Research Summer School at the College. Previously, he worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the Information Systems Department, Taibah University, KSA (2017-2021), and as a Senior Lecturer at the Information Systems Department, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia (2014-2017).
He obtained his BSc in Computers (Information Technology) from Cairo University, Egypt, in 2005, followed by a MSc in Information Technology Management and a PhD in Computer Science from UTM in 2010 and 2013, respectively. Faisal's research interests include data mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning, information retrieval, and smart health. He has an outstanding publication record in prestigious high-impact factor journals, including IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, IEEE Access, Computational and Structural Biotechnology Journal (Elsevier), Vehicular Communications (Elsevier), Resources, Conservation and Recycling (Elsevier), Scientific Report (Nature), Journal of Computer-Aided Molecular Design (Springer), Journal of Cheminformatics (Springer), Journal of Molecular Informatics (Wiley), Journal of Chemical Information and Modeling (ACS), PeerJ Computer Science, KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Systems, Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, PloS one, Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, and others. He also participated in several international conferences.
Moreover, Faisal has secured 21 research funds (as Principal/Co Investigator) from various sponsors in Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the UK, totalling about £950,500 (up to May 2024). Faisal has demonstrated excellence in research and enterprise leadership as he held multiple academic and research leadership roles including Lead of MSc AI Course (BCU), Lead of Research Summer School (BCU), Lead of Smart Health Lab (BCU), Head of Data Science Research Group (Taibah University), Head of Research Unit (Taibah University), Vice Head of Industry Collaboration Committee (UTM), General Chair of 12 International Conferences, and Associate/Guest Editor of 25 Scopus and ISI Journals. His contributions have been recognized with several research awards, including the Research Staff Award (BCU), Best Paper Awards from three international conferences, Research Excellence Award (Taibah University), Chancellor Award (UTM), and Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medal awards from innovation exhibitions.
