Howard Skempton 24 Preludes and Fugues
William Howard is one of Britain's leading pianists and over many years, he has developed close collaborations with some of the UK's foremost composers, including Howard Skempton and Judith Weir.
Today, he gives a special performance of Skempton’s exquisite 24 Preludes and Fugues. Their sparse textures, quirky endings, and intuitive phrasing, bear the hallmarks of Skempton's Minimalist style. Solitary Highland Song and Fragile were both commissioned as part of Howard’s ‘Love Song’ project and released on his album ‘Sixteen Contemporary Love Songs’, while The Art of Touching the Keyboard was inspired by the idea of Couperin’s harpsichord tutor of 1716. A brand new work by RBC PhD student, Chang Ge also features.
