So you’re doing your BTECs and probably have loads of questions about university and what it’s like. Can you get into uni with BTECs? How will studying at university be different to studying BTECs? Are A Levels ‘better’ than BTECs?
We’re here to answer your questions and dispel some myths, with a few ways that BTECs can help prepare you for your transition to uni….
1. Time management
Doing BTECs means that you should already be a pro at managing your time effectively to make sure you hit your assignment deadlines. This skill will come in super handy when you have a load of reading, some research and a few essays to complete at uni. If you’re finding time management tricky, check out our tips on how to keep on top of your BTEC assignments.
2. Assignment focus
As the majority of BTECs are made up of assignments rather than exams, you’ll have your technique down, ready to tackle essays and writing tasks for your uni course. Don’t worry about getting rusty with your exam technique – at BCU, we offer study sessions on a variety of topics, and can help you practise. Doing exams as well? 4. Independent work
BTECs have a large focus on independent working, which builds your resilience and understanding of self-directed study. At uni, you’ll be expected to do a lot of work around your classroom teaching, so you’ll be well prepared for this when it comes to tackling your first assignment! 5. Industry experience
Thanks to placements during your BTEC course, you’ll already have real-world knowledge of your industry of choice, which will not only look great on your CV but also really stand out on your Personal Statement. And, when you leave uni or undertake a placement during your degree, you’ll already have an advantage over some of your peers!
The transition to uni can be tough whether you've studied A Levels or BTECs. But as long as you know what is expected of you and embrace the change, you'll be winning.
