This past month has been full of celebration for our HELS department; from bake sale fundraisers to hand-crafted and bespoke medals for our healthcare staff, and congratulating some of our graduates on contributing to changing the future of cricket. Healthcare staff and students awarded bespoke medals Lecturer and jeweller Dauvit Alexander from our prestigious School of Jewellery designed bespoke medals to celebrate the work of students and their healthcare teachers during the peak of the pandemic. 2,015 medals were awarded in total, distributed by our Vice Chancellor, Professor Phillip Plowden. Graduates sign onto County Cricket contracts PHD student, Tom Brown, conducted invaluable research into some of the barriers to professional cricket for south Asian players, which led to the South Asian Cricket Academy (SACA) Scheme. Zain ul Hassan is the latest former BCU student to have benefitted from this research and the SACA, and has now graduated into a two-year contract with Glamorgan. Treat yourself for those in need Staff and students in the Department for Children and Young Peoples Nursing joined forces to raise funds for Children in Need 2022. The foyer of Seacole Building was filled with delicious cakes, samosas, drinks and games. In total, the team raised over £230 for those in need, with no crumbs left behind… Child Nursing student creates gift-donation event Second-year Children’s Nursing student, Beth Dennis organised a Christmas gift event for patients at Birmingham Women and Children’s Hospital (BWC). When Beth isn’t on placement at BWC across the oncology, surgical, general medicine and cardiac departments, she is spending time helping those in need. Beth wishes to make families lives that little bit better, when they are potentially going through the worst times. Round-up archive
