In 1996 Andy graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from the University of Manchester; he then completed a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Bristol where he investigated the Modulation of Neurotransmitter release by Purinoceptors. After completing 3 postdoctoral research positions at the Universities of Bristol and Birmingham, in 2008 he was appointed to a lectureship in Neuropharmacology.
In 2015, Andy was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Physiology at BCU. He is currently the Physiology Lead for the School of Nursing & Midwifery. His major teaching responsibilities includes delivery of physiology and pharmacology to pre- and post-registration nursing programmes.
In 2018 he was shortlisted for “Educator of the Year” and the “Teaching Innovation of the Year” at the Student Nursing Times Awards. In 2019 he was shortlisted for “Educator of the Year”.
In 2022, Andy was appointed as Head of Department for the Department of Life Sciences.
Currently supervising 3 internal PhD students and 1 external PhD student.
