Helen is the course leader for BSc Sport and Exercise Science and has been teaching in Higher Education for 10 years across both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. She holds a PgCert in Higher Education and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Helen completed her PhD at Leeds Beckett University, where she studied the biomechanics of some of the world’s top race walking athletes, including Olympians and World Championship medallists, using 3D motion capture, electromyography, and advanced statistical analysis.

In addition to her research, Helen has provided biomechanical support to British Athletics and British Gymnastics. She was also one of the event directors for the largest athletics biomechanics study to date, commissioned by World Athletics. Her support extended to the World Athletics Championships at the London 2017 outdoor and Birmingham 2018 indoor events. Helen is a BASES accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist in biomechanics and is a Chartered Scientist, recognised by The Science Council.
