Literacies for employabilities

This multidisciplinary HEA Collaborative project developed by Birmingham City University staff and students was rolled out in a number of partner institutions across the Midlands in 2013/14.

It examined how language and written communication in the workplace involves social and institutional relationships and constraints and is associated with issues of identity and power.

Students and tutors were encouraged to 'read' and reflect on their workplace and placement environments using an interactive literacies framework which was eventually developed into an electronic app to use on iPads and smart phones.
