More than ever a design tutor must help students to form connections in this fast-changing knowledge landscape. Gemma guides students on a range of intersecting design processes, underpinned with contextual awareness and research. This makes a fertile bed in which to grow the next generation of designers and is the approach that she believes will lead to innovation.
A designer must turn challenges into opportunities. For Gemma it is vital that academia is accessible and the design community diverse in order to accurately serve culture. Diversity has made BCU a particularly dynamic and interesting place to work and the tutors teach with sensitivity and clarity. Gemma aims to feed into this so university is a rich and memorable experience which gives students deep rooted satisfaction and a rich network of creative colleagues. As well as fostering visual curiosity and play, Gemma will get students to feel at home in the design community, whilst having fun as they begin to connect.
