Before his current position of Deputy Head, George Hart undertook the important role of Head of Undergraduate Studies for the BA Visual Communication at Birmingham City University (BCU). This included the discipline routes of Graphic Communication, Illustration, Film & Animation and Photography. These Courses focused on developing students with the skills and knowledge to further their creative talent within the various context they wish to move into, linking directly to industry at every opportunity.
Before this, George was the Course Leader and lecturer for BA Illustration. His goal was to help students develop their individual visual voice and gain a real understanding of their future ambitions and how these could be achieved.
Throughout these roles, students have won a wide range of national and international competitions, as well as gaining placement and internships at top creative companies. Graduates have gone on to forge fulfilling and high-profile careers within the creative industries. This is evidential of the focus on developing student talent with links to industry.
International collaboration and the global reach has been a key focus of the School of Visual Communication. George has worked closely with the Faculty’s International team to push the global opportunities and projects that students can embrace both at home and internationally.

Experienced teaching at all levels from Degree to Masters, looking to support all students in their own personal journey to make the most of their talent and reach their personal career and creative goals.
George has been part of many course developments and validations, so has gained knowledge and insight into teaching and learning methods across a range of courses and universities.
George has contributed to a number of National and International Institutions in the role as External Examiner, as well as sitting on numerous course validation boards.
This experience has given him a real insight into the teaching of Art & Design across a wide range of Intuitions, both in the UK and aboard.

George worked within the creative industries for seventeen years as a Freelance Illustrator/ Designer, mainly working in London but also nationally.
Some of the commercial clients George worked with include companies such as The Sunday Times, Channel 4, Conde Nast Publishing, Hodder and Stoughton Publishers, Brian Eno & War Child, British Airways, Commonwealth Institute, etc.
