Martin is a multifaceted hands-on creative, with skills in many aspects of digital and analogue design such as; photography, illustration, animation, motion, print, branding, design thinking, and ideation.
The combination of these skills, in and out of the working environment, have helped him to stay relevant at the cutting edge of his craft.
His creative roles have been varied but he has always worked on driving design solutions independently or as part of a larger team; from initial concept and inception through to project management, design application, and delivery.
Martin has mentored, directed, motivated, and led creative teams, as well as working side-by-side with technical development teams to ensure projects have delivered above and beyond.
First Class BA (Hons) Graphic Design by Negotiated Studies
Level 5 and Level 6
As a lecturer and educator at Birmingham City University on the undergraduate BA (Hons) Graphic Communication course, Martin has contributed to and supported colleagues on a range of modules across all three-year groups.
From the inception of course material and teaching plans, to assessment and face-to-face feedback, he has been an integral part of numerous teaching teams, and at the epic centre of student experience.
Alongside this, he has been instrumental in curating and managing multiple student-focused initiatives, such as final year shows, The Viscom Award ceremonies, and D&AD New Blood showcases in London.
Martin continues to nurture his relationships with industry by inviting practitioners to be part of creative initiatives such as Show & Tell, Friday Night Lights and Coffee Lounge.
Martin also curates an initiative called Sideline, a program that brings together student and industry guests to look into the continuing cycle of innovation between digital design thinking and analogue processes with a focus on exploration, experimentation and play. Guests have included Accept & Proceed, Studio Dumbar, Thomas Kurppa and Ian Anderson.
Martin has also been able to utilise these connections to bring unique creative opportunities and live briefs to the students such as a partnership with Gallery1988. For the past four years, students have competed to have their work showcased in LA. This partnership has given over 40 students the chance to become part of an established international gallery's roster of designers as well as exhibit and sell their work worldwide.
