Looking for a career with children? There's a whole of host of ways in which you could develop a career if you want to work with children. Teaching is just the tip of the iceberg!
Working with Children, Young People and Families
If you’re unsure of which route you want to go down or interested in working with children in a wider content, then Working with Children, Young People and Families might suit your needs. You’d need to have a strong commitment to social justice as this course seeks to provide you with the skills and motivation so that you can contribute to a changing society, particularly with services who work with, or for, vulnerable children, young people and their families. This course looks at children and young people up to the age of 25 and gives you the flexibility to go on to train for roles such as teacher or social worker, or work in a wide range of roles supporting children, young people and their families to improve their lives. You might also like to work in policy or management, designing and evaluating services for the most vulnerable members of society.
Conductive Education
Another vulnerable group you may wish to work with is children with special needs or disabilities. If so, you may want to consider Conductive Education. This course is unique in the UK and you would complete your degree as a qualified conductor. You would work with children with disabilities and neurological motor disorders, transforming their lives by helping them to be as independent as possible. In addition to working with children as a conductor, you could also go on to do a postgraduate teacher training course specialising in special educational needs (SEN).
Education Studies
If you’re interested in education in a broader sense, then our BA (Hons) Education Studies course might be what you’re looking for. Exploring concepts such as education and society, equality, diversity, values and policies of the UK education system, as well as educational systems around the world, you will be able to delve deeper into subjects that matter and are of interest to you, completing your course with the knowledge and skills to work in educational and training advisory roles in a range of organisations including businesses, local authorities, non-government organisations, charities, museums, art galleries and libraries.

Early Childhood Studies
Early Childhood Studies looks closely at the development of children during this crucial life stage and examines the influence of society on children, including working with parents, policy, safeguarding and how childhood is viewed, as well as how children learn. As a result of the breadth covered in this course, you could move into a range of roles working directly with children, such as becoming an Early Years Educator or going on to pursue a PGCE in Early Years to become a qualified teacher. You could also move into other roles working with parents and teachers to provide interventions for children who require it, or move into policy or leadership and management to influence and evaluate the support and interventions available to children.
Primary and Secondary Education
Perhaps one of the more obvious ways you could work with children is by becoming a teacher. We offer a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education which would allow you to work with younger children up to the age of 11 as well as Secondary Education courses in Science (Biology) and Physical Education. These would be ideal if you’d prefer to work with older children aged 11-18 and also want to develop an in-depth knowledge of a subject. All of our teacher training courses offer the possibility to be recommended for Qualified Teacher Status so you’re ready to get your career started on graduation.
