Here are our top reasons why you should choose Health Professions at BCU to study towards a successful and rewarding career in healthcare.
1. State-of-the-art facilities
Over the last few years, we have invested £41 million into our City South Campus in Edgbaston to provide state-of-the-art learning facilities for all Health, Education and Life Science courses.
The learning space and equipment is extremely advanced, including specialist laboratories, fitness suite, immersive classrooms and Simulation Manikins that allow you to practice real-life skills before going out on placement and into the work place.
In fact, our facilities are of such a high professional standard that industry leaders often visit to make use of our facilities, which also gives our students first-hand experience working with people in their desired field. An example of this is Kidderminster Harriers Football Club using our Sports facilities.
2. We get you ready for employment
You’ll get hands on experience in the profession or industry you’re training for through placements and/or sandwich year options, ensuring you’re ready for employment when you graduate.
And you're not alone when searching for the right place to carry out work experience. Our Faculty Careers+ team are on hand to help you secure work experience and placement opportunities if they are a compulsory part of your course, or if you're just looking for some relevant professional work experience alongside your study.
3. Our courses are accredited by professional bodies
Many of our courses are accredited by professional bodies, such as the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council), The College of Radiographers (CoR) and The Association for Physical Education (AfPE).
Gaining professional accreditation means that you can rest assured that our course content and delivery is in-line with industry standards and everything you are learning and practising will be relevant, current and up-to-date.
4. Earn while you learn
Our student employment scheme offers student jobs on campus, which allows you to apply for paid roles with us at the University, and gain valuable experience for your CV and future employment.
This is a great and convenient way to earn money when you need to alongside studying, by working for the University - for example at Open Days - and gives you the opportunity to use your student journey to help prospective students make the best decision.

5. Opportunities to travel abroad
You’ll have opportunities to travel abroad and observe practice in other countries, like our Diagnostic Radiography students who have been to Canada, and Speech and Language Therapy students visited South Korea.
The travel scholarships are a great opportunity to gain work experience in a different country, which is also great for helping your CV stand out from the crowd!
6. Prestigious partners
We pride ourselves on our excellent links with industry. For example, our Sport and Exercise students work with cricketers and professional staff at Warwickshire County Cricket Club, as well as receiving teaching from Sport Director Ashley Giles and Conditioning Coach Chris Armstrong.
7. You can work with service users
We ensure you have a holistic approach to your practice through the Forum for Accessing Community Experience (FACE), which allows service users and carers to share their experiences, knowledge and ideas with you.
This means that students on our health courses have the opportunity to gain first-hand experience working directly with service users while at university to ensure you're gaining the knowledge, insights and skills needed to be a qualified healthcare professional.
8. You could be eligible for one of our scholarship schemes
If you're applying for an undergraduate course at BCU, then you may be eligible for one of our scholarships. Find out more about receiving extra funding and support to kick start your BCU journey.
9. Experienced staff
Our staff come from the services and industries about which they teach, and many still practise alongside teaching and/or are active researchers.
Maintaining their links with industry means that the education you'll receive will be the most current and up-to-date - plus if your tutors are still practising in the field, they may be able to offer you unique opportunities to get first-hand industry experience.
