Thinking about a career in radiography? Hear from past students who are now working in the industry. Our radiotherapy alumni talk about their work and why they chose to study Therapeutic Radiography.
Why do you like working in therapeutic radiography?
"The one thing that makes me come into work with a big smile on my face is just the people. I love working with the patients, seeing the patients every single day. The people I work with, it's just an absolutely great experience. You really get to see people from all walks of life. You never get tired of hearing about someone else's story and what they've gone through and trying to impact them in a positive way. It's a new experience every single day and that keeps me hooked." ~Sumair
What is it like to work in therapeutic radiography?
"It can be a very sad and difficult time for a patient because there's a lot of fear when a patient comes in. But to see them after they've had treatment further on down the line, beaming smiles, thanking you for everything you've done for them bringing their children. And it makes you feel brilliant. It's just kind of like a little uplift boost because, you know, you've done a good job with them." ~Mark
What was it like training with BCU?
"Training with BCU means you get a lot of support; you get a lot of consistency with where you're going with your placements and training. So, you don't feel like every time you go to a new hospital, you must find your feet again. You can go back to a team you already know and that already make you feel well supported." ~Sally
Why did you choose a career in therapeutic radiography?
"I think it's an amazing career just because of how much you're doing for patients and how much care they're receiving. I think it's very rewarding and you're going home each day knowing that you've done your best for patients trying to improve their quality of life." ~Mona
What advice would you give someone who is considering studying therapeutic radiography?
"My advice for anybody considering it, just go for it. Radiotherapy, it's not something you'd ever think of. It's not something they're going to tell you in secondary school and college. But when you find out about it, when you experience it, when you get involved with it, offers so much and you can be really surprised at how far it can take you." ~Sumair
