Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to connect with others, share ideas and bring imagination to life. Whether through words, performance or visuals, storytellers have the ability to inspire, entertain and educate. If you're passionate about telling stories and want to turn it into a career, there are a variety of degrees at BCU that can help you develop your skills to make your dreams a reality. Here are some of the top degrees you can study if you love telling stories.

Media

A degree in Media provides an excellent foundation for storytelling in the digital age. Whether you choose to study Media and CommunicationsMedia Production or Journalism, all courses have an element of storytelling and well equip you with the skills to craft compelling narratives for various platforms. You will have access to our state-of-the-art Parkside facilities, including professional standard TV and radio studios, to help you on your journey.

You’ll learn about writing for different audiences, multimedia storytelling, and the power of visual and audio communication. Careers in media range from journalism and publishing to digital marketing and social media management.

Acting

Acting is all about bringing stories to life through performance. A degree in Acting will help you develop skills in voice, movement and character development. Whether you aspire to work in theatre, television or film, an Acting degree provides the training needed to embody different characters and convey emotions in a way that captivates audiences.

Studying Acting at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire also helps you to enhance your improvisation skills, public speaking and confidence, all whilst being taught by industry professionals with years of experience.

Film

For those who love visual storytelling, a Film degree offers the perfect opportunity to learn the art of filmmaking. From scriptwriting to directing, editing and cinematography, we have film courses that cover every aspect of production.

On a film course, you will gain hands-on experience in creating short films, documentaries and feature-length projects. A Film degree can lead to careers in directing, screenwriting, film production and even animation, allowing storytellers to bring their visions to the big screen.

English

If your passion for storytelling is rooted in the written word, an English degree can be a fantastic choice. Our English courses explore literature, creative writing, and linguistic (language) techniques that shape powerful narratives.

Whether you dream of becoming a novelist, poet or screenwriter, an English degree helps develop analytical and writing skills crucial for crafting engaging stories. Careers for English graduates include publishing, content writing, teaching and even scriptwriting for film and television.

Pursuing a degree in one of these fields can help you turn your storytelling passion into a career. If you love telling stories, there’s a BCU degree that can help you share them with the world.
