Seven facts you may not know about our MSc Nursing course

Nursing is a key vocational profession where you will be responsible for providing the best care to help and enrich the lives of others.

Our MSc Nursing courses offer innovative new ways to train and helps to deliver on the Government’s commitment for 50,000 more nurses, by providing a professional and accessible nursing degree programme. Below, we have shared seven facts you may not know about our MSc Adult Nursing and MSc Mental Health Nursing courses.

1

Online learning opportunities

The innovative approach to learning takes full advantage of the online and virtual technologies, and opportunities that have been accelerated by Covid-19, to provide a blended learning experience. This means that most of your theory element of this course will be delivered online.

2

This is a Health Education England (HEE) initiative

The blended learning MSc Nursing courses were created in partnership with Health Education England (HEE) and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to establish a radical change in nurse education. Patrick Mitchell (Director of Innovation and Transformation for HEE) declared: “It shows the way to the future of educating and training our workforce, with the use of existing and emerging learning technologies.” It has also been described as a world-leading new blended degree, which will equip the next generation of nurses with that expertise they need to become nursing professionals from the very beginning.

3

This course is designed to be widely accessible

The design of a blended learning approach through digitalisation was set out in the NHS Long-Term Plan to maximise opportunities for students wishing to access nursing. When he was Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock said “It will open doors by providing more flexible learning options to attract a more diverse range of applicants.”

4

We were chosen by HEE to deliver these courses

We're excited to say we are one of only a few universities in England to provide this two-year degree, which is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

5

Flexibility of the course

Flexible course delivery allows you to design your own timetable of study and practice placement. So, you'll be able to more easily access learning (virtually), while maintaining a balance of family-life or care roles with your educational studies.

6

Collaborative learning

This course has been written collaboratively between our academics, Experts by Experience and Practice Placement Partners. It is an ambitious programme of work, which uses both existing and emerging learning technologies.

7

You do not need previous nursing experience to join this course

This is a pre-registration nursing course, meaning you don't need to have worked as a nurse previously to access the course.
